In the creation process, Chou not only emphasize the natural beauty of the patterns but also constantly challenge myself to achieve extraordinary thinness in wheel throwing. This delicate thinness not only enhances the functionality of the pieces but also gives them a finer, softer touch. However, reaching this level of thinness requires exceptional skill in wheel throwing, with each step needing to be meticulously controlled—any slight mistake can result in failure.
Glaze Design
For the glazes, Chou employs self-designed and custom-blended techniques, ensuring that each piece has a unique color combination. These glazes not only add depth to the work but also enhance the expression of the marbled patterns, allowing them to reveal different aesthetic qualities under varying light conditions.
The Beauty of Tree Rings
Chou’s work is often referred to as “Year Rings Cups” because each finished piece appears to record the passage of time, showcasing beautiful patterns reminiscent of tree rings.
